C&G’s Guide to Spring Clear Outs

Tips & Advice

Spring is coming – in just 3 weeks in fact. So what better time to spring clean your home and prepare for a clear wardrobe and a clear mind for the new season? In today’s blog, C&G share our spring clear out tips and list the best Melbourne markets to sell your old treasures.

Before you get to the actual spring deep clean, it pays to declutter first. Less stuff, more space to clean – and there’s something very therapeutic about sorting through your material possessions and getting rid of things that no longer serve you.

Clearing out old clothing is a great place to start. Most of us are guilty of having items in our wardrobes that either don’t fit, or don’t reflect who we are anymore. Make a day of it with your friends or family, and go through each item you own and sort into four categories – keep, throw, sell, and last chance.

Your last chance pile is for those items you just can’t bear to let go of, but aren’t sure if you’ll ever use or wear again. The last chance items should be reviewed in 3 months. If you’ve not used or worn it, it goes.

With your throw and sell piles, you can donate the throw pile to charity, and sell any items that still have value. Try these markets and online destinations for selling your preloved fashions and homewares:

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook’s Marketplace function allows anyone to list items for sale and be contacted by interested buyers. One man’s trash is another’s treasure, so list your best items and watch the messages roll in.

Local Facebook Buy Swap Sell Groups

While Facebook Marketplace gives you access to wider pools of buyers, local buy/swap/sell groups can connect you to people nearby, to minimise the need for postage. See your preloved items go to good use by finding a group in your area. Bayside Bright Buy Swap Sell is a good place to start for Bayside locals.

Camberwell Market

Known as the famous preloved fashion market, Camberwell Market might mean an early start on a Sunday but it’s certainly worth it. Each week thousands of savvy bargain hunters trawl the markets looking for new finds. Hire a stall and take all those bits you’ve been meaning to sell, make some extra cash and feel good about recycling your old items.

Bentleigh Sunday Market

Bentleigh Sunday Market offers stalls and mini stalls to those wanting to sell their old treasures or handmade creations. On a smaller scale to Camberwell market, you can hire these stalls for a lower cost – it’s worth a visit if you’re new to market selling.

Cheltenham Rotary Market

This weekly trash and treasure market is packed with stallholders selling everything from fashion and furniture to toys and games. Book a stall here and get down early to be the first stalls seen by shoppers.
