C&G’s Guide to New Year Resolutions

Tips & Advice

January is in full swing, and it’s safe to say many of us have left 2020 in the past! However, it’s also safe to say that new year resolutions are both tricky to determine and keep – regardless of whether we’re in a global pandemic or not! It’s never too late to set attainable goals, and this latest C&G blog is filled with advice for moving through 2021 with a positive attitude!

Start small.

As much as we’d love to hop on a plane right now, border closures are making our plans a bit unpredictable. However, there are plenty of small resolutions that we can aim to achieve each day, leading to the same feelings of accomplishment and fulfilment! Do you plan to exercise more? Read or write more? Dedicate some time each day to performing the activity, even if it’s a 10-minute run or a book chapter before going to bed. This way you can easily develop a rhythm that becomes habitual.

Keep it simple.

Too often we set a big goal that becomes too overwhelming to achieve. Many self-help guides often advise you to break down your goal into smaller goals, navigating each step chronologically. Our resolutions do not need to be too ambitious either. If your end goal is to lead a more active lifestyle, short runs that become longer sessions will do the trick! Unless of course, you want to run a longer marathon that will require more extensive training!

Be kind to yourself.

Most people can agree, we often set our new year resolutions and forget about them after a few months. Or we set the same goals each year, hoping this time we finally achieve them! However, it’s a lot of pressure to put on yourself, especially when you also have to accommodate other priorities such as work, social gatherings and personal time. Be kind to yourself if you happen to miss a day or two. It’s completely okay and by setting small tasks you’re able to keep going despite distractions.
