C&G’s Guide to Moomba Festival 2020

Tips & Advice

Moomba Festival is back this year from the 6th to 9th of March, setting up shop along the Yarra River in Birrarung Marr and Alexandra Gardens. There are enough amusement rides, food trucks and fireworks to make the event perfect for both kids and adults. This latest C&G blog unpacks the program’s highlights so you get the most out of your long weekend!

Carnival

Nothing brings a festival to life like a carnival filled with amusement rides, hot dogs and good vibes! Adrenaline junkies can brave The Beast, while their non-daredevil friends can enjoy some fairy floss on the Cup and Saucer. The Carnival will be running every day of the festival, with a special Friday Ride Pass that gives you 3 hours of unlimited rides for $37! Otherwise, this page contains the full list of Moomba rides and their prices.

Eat and Drink

Moomba is bringing the goods this year, with over 30 different food trucks and eateries making an appearance! From classic American hot dogs and burgers to authentic Vietnamese street food, there is something for everyone. Look for the green apple symbol and you’ll be treated to some healthy options such as fresh fruit salads and souvlaki wraps. Check out the full list of food and drinks here!

Birdman Rally

Sunday 8 March | 11:30am

A long-held Moomba tradition, the Birdman Rally will have you in stitches as brave competitors put on interesting flying inventions and try their luck at gliding over the Yarra. It’s probably the most daring and hilarious fundraising effort you’ll ever witness! You can even vote for your favourite competitor here!

Moomba Parade

Monday 9 March | 10:45am

It’s not Moomba without this iconic parade! This larger-than-life display of colour, music and dance has been designed by the winners of last year’s Design A Float competition, and forms a wonderful platform for local dance troupes and performers to showcase their talent. The parade begins with a Welcome to Country address from the Wurundjeri Tribe at Birdwood Avenue, before making its way through the Kings Domain parklands and finishing at Queen Victoria Gardens.
