C&G’s Guide to Fighting Pollen in Your Home

Tips & Advice

With Spring allergies in the air - indoor dust, mites and pollen cause us to swell, sneeze and sniffle all day long! In today’s blog, C&G fights off indoor pollen with handy tips to keeping your house an allergy-free zone.

Is staying indoors the best way to fight off spring allergies? Our homes are hothouses for allergens, with individuals, children and pets bringing pollen indoors without even knowing it! In the latest C&G blog, our guide to fighting indoor pollen will help you defeat springtime sniffles and nasty pollens from infesting your home.

  1. Park your car in the garage or under carport

Unfortunately, not all Melburnians have the luxury of an enclosed car space. However, there are plenty of ways to clean pollen-covered cars and avoid the spread of allergens. Give your car a quick rinse whenever you can, always keep windows shut and keep sanitary wipes in your glovebox to clean handles before use.

  1. Take off your shoes

Taking off your shoes before entering your home will stop any nasties from spreading indoors. If you don’t want to leave your shoes outside, designate a spot in the entry or hallway.

  1. Wash your hair

Your hair is a pollen magnet! Before bed, wash your hair to prevent pollen from spreading to your bed linen. If you’re spending a lot of time outdoors, always wear a hat or bandana – just don’t forget to remove before entering your house.

  1. Ventilation

Try to keep windows shut and rely on air conditioning during pollen season. Cleaning mould and dust from window stills, fans or any dust entrapments will do wonders for your sinuses.

  1. Keep porches and verandas clean

Swiffer dusters, mops and brooms are great devices to clear dust and pollen from entering your home. If you have outdoor seating and tables keep an old bedsheet to cover when unoccupied.

  1. Indoor Plants

Any indoor potted plants, ferns or cacti can form mould and pollen sprigs. If possible, keep potted plants in your garden or balcony during pollen season.

  1. Indoor/Outdoor Pets

Indoor and outdoor pets could be bringing pollen inside when they enter your home. Brush or wash your pet frequently to prevent pollen from spreading.
