C&G’s Guide to Celebrating Melbourne Cup

Tips & Advice

November has arrived, and so has the Spring racing season! In order to keep Victorians safe and continue our roadmap to recovery, the Melbourne Cup Carnival won’t be hosting spectators this year. However, it doesn’t mean we can’t put on our frocks and fascinators, and celebrate remotely. With restrictions lifted on household gatherings, we can enjoy the long weekend with our loved ones. This latest C&G blog contains plenty of creative ideas for celebrating the Melbourne Cup at home!

Dress up anyways!

Who’s excited to dress up after months in activewear? We sure are! Even if you’re enjoying a lowkey long weekend, use the opportunity to sort through your wardrobe and give your fanciest frock a twirl. An even better idea? Host your own fashion show in your backyard or outdoor area!

Need a more official reason to dress up? The Myer Fashions on the Field competition has been a longstanding tradition, and will be rebranded as Fashions on the Front Lawn this year. This virtual competition will be accepting photographs of your best racewear outfit, with the winners announced on live television on the 5th of November. More details can be found here!

Treat yourself to gourmet catering.

This is also Melbourne’s first weekend out of lockdown, and we think that’s worth celebrating! The Melbourne Cup Carnival is hosting a virtual Marketplace, bringing you the best in food, drink and entertainment offerings. We’re loving the Duck Prosciutto and Watermelon Tart recipes! If cooking isn’t your thing, there are hundreds of catering hampers available including a Spring sangria pack by Seppelt Wines and ‘Go big at home’ hamper by Truffleduck. How fancy!

Bring the party home!

It’s not quite a party in the traditional sense – please follow the rules on household gatherings and stay safe, of course! However, you’ll still be able to enjoy your favourite musicians on Network 10 or 10Play, as well as this specially curated playlist ‘Sounds of the Park.’ To check the Cup Week Entertainment schedule, follow this link! Some notable names include Pete Murray, Illy, the Rubens and Kate Miller-Heidke.
