C&G’s Guide to Bathroom Design

Tips & Advice

Bathrooms are one of the most important and personal rooms in a house. After all, it’s where we begin and end each day. So if you’re remodelling or upgrading, you want to ensure the design is both aesthetic and functional. This C&G blog lists everything you should consider when designing a bathroom.

Start with the layout.

Unless you have the budget for it, bathrooms generally aren’t big rooms. It will take some planning to maximise your available space, while considering hidden elements such as plumbing and storage. Don’t hesitate to consult a professional when it comes to placement of your essential amenities. They will provide advice on how much space is required to install a toilet or shower, for example, and to ensure everything functions correctly.

Bathtubs and showers.

Will you have a bathtub or shower? Or both? If you have the space, freestanding tubs are a stunning choice that offers modern luxury, even if they will cost the most to install. Showers on the other hand, can potentially save more floorspace and suit people with busier lifestyles.

Basins.

There are so many design options when it comes to basins. They can be attached to the wall if you have a smaller bathroom and need to save space, or built into to vanities and benchtops. The latter may provide you with more freedom to install storage.

Toilets.

It’s an underrated but extremely important part of your bathroom! Consider a wall-facing suite that sits flat against your wall – it will hide unattractive water connections and make it easier to clean. For a more premium look, in-wall toilets with the cistern built into the wall cavity will do the trick.

Tapware.

These are essentially the final accessories you add to an outfit! They add the finishing touches to your bathroom and give it that ‘wow’ factor. Consider high quality fixtures that look modern and function well, as they can be costly to repair or replace in the future.

Tiling.

Make a statement with patterned tiles, or simply opt for simplicity and elegance. Like all other components of the bathroom, pick quality tiles that will stand the test of time.
