Until the Final Siren – How to Celebrate Grand Final Weekend

Local Community

It’s finally here – we’ve been waiting all year on the edge of our seats as our favorite footy teams battle it out for a place in the AFL Grand Final. The big day is almost here and we’re champing at the bit to celebrate – so in today’s blog, C&G are sharing the best ways to enjoy the Grand Final Weekend!

The Hawks and the Eagles will go head to head this weekend to compete for the premiership title, and this year we’ve even got a public holiday to enjoy – which softens the blow of having to amend a particular song’s lyrics to ‘One Day In October’! If you’re lucky enough to have secured tickets to the Grand Final, we’re most jealous. For the vast majority of Melbourians, a good old Aussie Barbie will be on the cards - but if you feel like heading out, there’s some great celebrations going on around the city too. Go on, venture out and get into the Grand Final atmosphere!

The Footy-Mad Party

The Wharf Hotel is hosting an all-day Grand Final Party, kicking off at 12pm and running into the night. With 13 large screens throughout the venue, get in early to bag a top viewing spot. You’ll be able to nibble on footy grazing snacks, show off your skills in a half time hand ball competition, and enjoy live music after the final siren. Jump on the guest list or book a table in the restaurant for lunch.

The Bayside Bonanza

Half Moon in Brighton are hosting their annual Grand Final party, with an all day BBQ and a heap of drinks specials. You’ll be holding your breath for the first ball to soar through the posts, as $2 and $2 wines are on the cards from first bounce to first goal.

The Family Party

If you’re not keen for a big boozy party, get the family down to Federation Square where the big screens will be set up for a city viewing of the game. Entry is free, and there’s plenty of places to eat nearby. With the weather set to be in the 30s, an outdoor viewing session might be just the ticket!

The DIY AFL Party

Got a killer deck, impressive Weber and fancy avoiding the city AFL madness? No problems - host your own Grand Final party. Fire up the BBQ, invite your guests (BYO meat policy optional!), turn up the TV, ready plenty of cold beverages and have a footy on hand for a half time kick-to-kick - you’re all set.

From all of us at Chisholm and Gamon, enjoy the long weekend and bask in the glory of Melbourne Grand Final week madness – and make sure you shout BALLLLLL as loudly as you can for the last time until next season!
