The Linden Postcard Show (and Why You Should Enter)

Local Community

Linden New Art is a contemporary art gallery and a key cultural asset for the City of Port Phillip. Located at 26 Acland Street in St Kilda, the gallery has earned their reputation as a leading public arts hub – hosting exhibitions and events that provide the local community with access to quality contemporary art. One of those events is the much-anticipated Linden Postcard Show. A non-acquisitive contemporary art prize, the show is offering $10,000 worth of prizes and plenty of recognition for the established, emerging or amateur artist. C&G have got the low-down on how to (and why you should) enter!

The Postcard Show

A unique event now in its 26th year, The Linden Postcard Show provides an opportunity for anyone to get their work into a gallery! Accepting hundreds of small format entries, Linden New Art will exhibit the entries between October 21, 2016 and January 29, 2017. Whether you’re a professional artist, emerging designer, amateur painter, hobbyist or simply have an eye for photography, it’s a great opportunity to get involved with Bayside’s creative community.

How to enter

The Linden Postcard Show is an open entry prize, which means anybody that complies with the terms and conditions can enter! Some of the key stipulations are that the work must have been completed in 2016, it must measure 8” x 10” including framing and only two-dimensional works will be accepted. Of course, you must consent for your work to be exhibited for the duration of the show, and all works must be for sale. While the entry fee is $55 for one work ($66 for two, and $77 for the maximum of three entries), there’s a good chance you’ll recoup the entry fee if your masterpiece sells (understandably, all sales attract a 30% commission from the gallery).

Presenting your work

Omnus Framing are collaborating with Linden New Art to offer framing for these small artworks, with a special offer on postcard sized frames (learn more about the offer here). Similarly, St Kilda Art Supplies are offering a 20% discount on 8” x 10” stretched canvases and canvas boards for entrants wishing to work on canvas.

The Linden Postcard Show website stipulates that all works not mounted or framed will be pinned to the wall – and as works must be for sale, it is advisable to present them well to make them attractive to potential buyers!

The prizes

The judges are Michael Brennan (Acting Artistic Director, LaTrobe University Museum of Art), Emma Cox Busowsky (Curator, Castlemaine Art Gallery) and Adam Harding (Director, Horsham Art Gallery). Prize winners will be announced at the opening night on October 21, with the People’s Choice Award being announced at the exhibition’s end.
