The Autumn School Holidays: Week 1 Highlights

Local Community

As we turn our clocks back an hour to mark the end of daylight savings on April 2, parents across Victoria will also be turning their attention to the fact that the school holidays are commencing! Starting on Saturday April 1 and running through until April 17, Melbourne has loads of fun activities for children and families these school holidays. Today, C&G have rounded up the highlights for week one of the Autumn school holidays. Read on.

For the littlies

Young children will love exploring Melbourne’s famous Polly Woodside on South Wharf – especially on Pirate Sundays! Starting at 10am, there’ll be a treasure hunt at 11am followed by deck-scrubbing and bell-ringing with a costumed guide – and arts and crafts activities later in the day. The event is on select weekends only, with the next taking one place on Sunday, April 2.

Bron’s Art in Sandringham (near C&G’s Black Rock office) will also host some great kids’ craft workshops for children aged four and up. The Autumn School Holidays program includes four workshops in week one, including drawing classes, fruit printing, canvas painting and more. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.

For primary school-aged children

With six shows from April 3 to April 8, Anthony Verity’s Musical Mime Mash Up is a Melbourne International Comedy Festival special, perfect for children under 12. Kids will meet George – ‘cleaner to the stars’ and get a hilarious insight into his world of cleaning up after the big shows. Taking place at the Alex Theatre on Fitzroy Street in St Kilda, you can book your tickets online here.

Other ideas include Sandringham Golf Driving Range’s golf clinics, Book Making Workshops at the State Library of Victoria and and Easter fun at Luna Park. There’ll be two extra rides for the holidays and a bunch of other special activities as part of the park’s holidays program

For teenagers

Top Arts 2017 showcases the best work by Victorian High School students who have completed Art or Studio Arts as part of their VCE. With a diverse range of art forms including painting, sculpture and multimedia, teenagers will find the topics and themes highly relatable regardless of their vocation. Especially inspiring for those looking to further their creative education! On now at the National Gallery of Victoria.

For the adventure seekers, The Enchanted Adventure Garden at Arthurs Seat is just twenty minutes from C&G’s Mount Martha office and offers a range of great tree-surfing adventures, including aerial obstacle courses and zip lines. There’s also a Nippers Course for children under 135cm in height.

Be sure to stay tuned for C&G’s blog special on the highlights of the second week of the Autumn school holidays (April 10-17) – coming soon!
