Sweet Like C&G – Your Guide to The Cake, Bake and Sweets Show This Weekend

Local Community

Yes, it’s true. There’s a whole exhibition dedicated to cakes, baking and sweet treats, and it’s coming to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre this weekend. If you’re overwhelmed by the number of things happening at the show, check out
C&G’s guide to all the highlights.

From Friday 23rd – Sunday 25th October, the Cake, Bake and Sweets Show will take over the MCEC. From workshops with professional chefs to a real chocolate river, there’s plenty to see. Here’s our highlights:

The Willy Wonka Chocolate River

Yes, you read that right. Inspired by that of Willy Wonka, Kristen Tibballs and Savour Chocolate School have created a real life chocolate river for the show. The sweet garden – featuring life sized lollipop trees and Oompa Loompas – will offer the chance to win one of ten golden tickets to win great baking prizes.

The Smooth FM Chocolate Lounge

The ultimate place to relax with a cup of smooth melted hot chocolate, chill out with the Smooth FM team and sample some of the finest sweet treats. Pop here to rest your aching legs if you’re all shopped out at the exhibitor stalls.

Producers’ Marketplace

Your chance to get your hands on some of the treats from the best cake and sweet producers at the show. From tarts, cakes and breads to jams and preserves, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

The Super Theatre

If you’re regularly seen fan-girling your favourite celebrity chef on TV, in magazines and pawing through their cook books, the Super Theatre is for you. Éclair king, Tim Clark, The Living Room’s Miguel Maestre and dessert master Pierrick Boyer are just some of the names scheduled to appear, and what’s more, purchase a book of theirs from the show on the day, and you could get the chance to meet them for a signing

Healthy Baking Stage

If you’re a gluten-free goddess or a fitspo bunny, the healthy baking stage is the place to be. Rowie Dillon will show you how to bake dairy-free, gluten-free and sugar-free sweet treats, and give you tips and tricks on great lunchbox ideas for kids to keep them healthy.

There’s also baking and decorating demonstrations from Masterchef finalists and the Channel Ten team, tons of tasters and changes to try new products and techniques. If your weekend is just too jam packed to get down to the sweet treat fiesta, pay a visit to some of our favourite Bayside treateries. We love Port Melbourne’s Noisette, Brighton’s Keith’s Homemade Cakes and St Kilda’s Monarch Cakes.
