Real Change with the ‘Heart of St Kilda’ Concert

If you had the opportunity to check out C&G’s recent blog featuring the first line-up announcement for the Heart of St Kilda Concert this year, then you’ll already know that it’s going to be an absolute ripper! Just as we were getting over the thrill of hearing that Aussie legends Russell Morris, Kutcha Edwards and the emerging (yet extremely talented) Olympia, are on the bill, The Sacred Heart Mission revealed the rest of the line-up. And folks, this is not just any charity concert! It’s one of the highlights of Melbourne’s music and comedy calendar and an essential way to support those in need. Read on to learn why the Heart of St Kilda concert can really make positive a change in our community.

Real Change

It was 1982 when local Parish Priest, Father Ernie Smith, opened his door and shared a meal with a homeless man. He had been inspired by this Bible passage:

"...for I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome.” Matthew 25: 35-36.

No doubt inspired as the colour and warmth returned to the man’s face, this simple act generosity had formed the beginning of something truly significant.

Father Ernie went on to create The Sacred Heart Mission with a small team of committed staff and parishioners from St Kilda West. Before long, the charity was serving simple but wholesome meals out of the presbytery's small kitchen. The need for this community assistance was undeniable, and The Sacred Heart Mission still exists as an essential line of support for many Australians.

On a daily basis, The Sacred Heart Mission’s Meals Program feeds up to 400 fellow Australians experiencing homelessness, social isolation and disadvantage. That’s around 160,000 meals per year, and the community needs your support to keep up this fantastic work. How? By purchasing tickets to the Heart of St Kilda concert on September 6, 2016 at the Palais Theatre.

A Legendary Line-up

You may have heard of St Kilda local, Brian Nankervis, from his role as co-host of RocKwiz, but did you know that together with Larry Ponting, Wal Bishop OAM and Neil Croker of the Palais Theatre, this will be the ninth Heart of St Kilda Concert that he’s curated, produced and hosted? And all in the interest of helping the Sacred Heart Mission! We think that’s pretty legendary.

Musicians set to perform on the night are:
