Nap Hard, Play Hard: C&G’s Ultimate Guide to Playgrounds Bayside

Local Community

With the holidays in full swing, it’s time to get the little ones (and yourself) active and out of the house – away from the pudding leftovers! Not sure which adventure playground is most convenient to you? Never fear: C&G have done the hard work for you: here’s a list of our favourite playgrounds bayside. Sit back and relax as your little darlings flex their muscles and their imaginations.

St Kilda Adventure Playground

This famous playground is based on a Danish concept of child-driven play.

Rustic and full of elements that urban kids often miss out on – such as ponds, splinters and billy-carts - this muddy labyrinth of wooden structures, trampolines and flying foxes will suit the most adventurous kids.

Make sure you call ahead as the park regularly runs programs for local children experiencing disadvantage and may be closed to the general public.

Thomas Street South Reserve

A playground worthy of Captain Jack, the Thomas Street adventure ground has lots of places to climb, sit and peek down at your playmates. Featuring many different walkways and pieces of climbing equipment, your little Kings and Queens of the Castle will never need to touch the ground.

Glenisla Drive Reserve

Set amongst Australian native bushland, this corrugated iron and railway sleeper structure looks like its ready for Ned Kelly’s last stand! The big wooden playfort has everything from an escape hatch to a climbing wall with plenty of room to hide from the Troopers. For the budding bush balladeer there are even instruments to inspire their first musical masterpiece.

Skinners Adventure Playground

Another playground to challenge adventurous littlies, this ‘community backyard’ will keep kids busy for hours. With climbing structures, trampolines, cubbies, soccer and basketball, children are encouraged to use their imagination and engage in 'risk-taking' play in a supervised environment.

As with the St Kilda Adventure playground, it’s a good idea call ahead as programs for local children experiencing disadvantage are run regularly and may be closed to the general public.

Bicentennial Park, Scotch Parade, Chelsea

With two gigantic slides at its heart, you could easily lose track of time waiting for your kids to appear giggling out the other end! If the slides aren’t enough, there’s a Smurf village with a music shack, story hut and enormous green grasshopper and bee ‘springers’.
