Melbourne Food and Wine Festival 2015 – Winter Program

‘Tis the season for comfort food – roast pork, steaming dumplings, hot chocolate and frosty steins full of beer abound this winter at the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. That’s right, the city has many culinary delights on offer this season! In today’s blog we present C&G’s top 5 food indulgences of the winter food festival – from the Mornington Peninsula to Melbourne’s bayside and beyond.

Roasted Snapper in Sorrento

Melbourne is well known for its succulent, fresh seafood. If you get in quick, you can still indulge in some of Sorrento’s best ocean bounty at popular Cakes and Ale restaurant. Patrons will be able to enjoy fresh caught snapper from Queenscliff that is brought in by ferry each morning. Served with a side of local winter vegetables, we think it will definitely be $35 well spent!

 Divine Dumplings in Prahran

There is no doubt that Melbourne is a multicultural city with some delicious traditional Asian foods on offer: think peking duck, gyoza and of course - dumplings. Baysiders, be sure to indulge in the Shiraz and Yum Cha Lunch at David’s Restaurant in Prahran every Saturday afternoon until the 4thof July. For $69 you can eat until you burst with an endless supply of yum cha and 8 complimentary varieties of Shiraz.

Devilish Chocolate Degustation in Bright

Does chocolate hold a sweet spot in your heart? Then we’ve just the thing for you. Simone’s Restaurant and the Bright Chocolate Factory have teamed up to offer you a four course chocolate-based degustation menu complete with a factory tour - so you can get a ‘behind the scenes’ look at how this sweet treat is made. The Chocolate degustation is available from Tues-Sat at Simone’s restaurant, with the factory tour running at 2:00pm Friday or 10:00am Sunday.

Woodfired Western Plains Pork in Southbank

Roast pork is definitely a winter staple, so why not indulge your comfort cravings at Artusi restaurant? Suckling pig straight from their woodfire oven paired with a complimentary glass of wine is on the menu this season, so get down to Southbank from now until the 30th of June to enjoy.

Beer-braised Chicken in Docklands

Munich Brauhaus love beer so much that they’ve started putting it in their food. Literally.  You’ve just over a week left to enjoy their signature beer-braised chicken, served with a side of chargrilled corn and German spätzle. Warm yourself this winter with a taste of Bavaria in Melbourne.
