Let’s be Mindful in May

Local Community

We want to take a moment to talk about the importance of mindfulness, mental wellness and health. This month C&G are undertaking a fitness challenge, with the team focusing on our general health, losing weight, building strength and, perhaps most importantly, improving our sense of wellness. With this in mind, we are encouraging our readers to learn

What is Mindful in May?

Mindful in May challenges people to meditate for ten minutes a day every day in May. Participants can join up either as individuals or part of a group (so you can get your friends involved!) There is a $30 registration fee that provides access to Mindful in May’s online course and meditation program that will assist you in your challenge.

Once you’ve registered, it’s time to start fundraising! Tell your friends, family and co-workers to sponsor you and spread the word! One in nine people don’t have access to clean water, and by fundraising with Mindful in May you are helping to build clean water projects in developing countries. All funds raised through Mindful in May support Charity Water, a non profit organisation that donates 100% of funds to water projects.

Simply visit the Mindful in May site to register and find out more about the cause.

Making Way for Mindful in May

Eager to get started but want a bit of a mindfulness boost? There are plenty of apps available to help with meditation and clearing your mind:

Buddhify – This app has over eighty guided meditations custom-made to fit the lifestyle of the individual user. It can be used while travelling, at work or even going to sleep: the meditations reflect the nature of the user and the activity in order to reduce stress and maximise mindfulness.

Headspace – This app works as your own personal trainer for your mind, providing pick-and-choose sessions to cater to your mood and lifestyle. You can choose your session length, replay favourites, and learn how to apply mindfulness to your everyday life.

Smiling Mind – For those with teenagers (or hoping to do Mindful in May with teens) this app is a great way to start. Smiling Minds is modern meditation for young people that helps to provide a sense of calmness, clarity and contentment. A web-based wellness program, it is all about improving the lives of young Australians by treating stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses.
