Keep Calm : Winter School Holidays Are Coming

Local Community

Some parents (who shall remain nameless) cringe at the thought of winter school holidays. The kids are at home all day - bored and cooped up inside – which is particularly challenging during the cold, dark months. But don’t worry, as C&G have found some sure-fire boredom-busters to keep you and the kids entertained bayside these holidays.

Rock Out with your Red Nose Out

Get ready for Australia’s first 12 hour disco! Sure to be an event with ‘flare’ (geddit?) this disco event supports Red Nose Day and will be held on Friday the 26th of June at Luna Park. An all-ages, fun-filled caper which features live music, children’s entertainers and some chill areas in case you pull a groove muscle. Tickets are $11.50, with all proceeds going to help SIDS and Kids.

Footy Fever these School Holidays

Girls and boys aged 5-12 are invited to spruce up on their AFL skills, or just learn a few basics at the Moorabbin Oval on Tuesday the 7th of July. This enjoyable and inclusive program presented by AFL Victoria focuses on skills and drills, mini games and an overall fun football experience.

Science in the Park

Do you have a budding scientist in the family? Then PrimeSCI! might be just the thing for you. From Monday the 6th of July, kids can take on the role of a paleontologist for a day - learning about fossills, plants and insects. Lessons run from 9.30am to 3:00pm in Braeside, Portsea and Somers.

Animake Workshop in Docklands

The Library at the Dock becomes animated this winter with the Animake workshop. An all-day program suitable for older kids who want to flex their creative muscles, participants will learn DIY animation the old fashioned way using scissors, paper and glue. Come along on Sunday the 28th of June to learn more about this lost art.

World’s Largest Crab at the Melbourne Aquarium

Residents of Claws is the latest exhibit at the Melbourne Aquarium, showcasing the Japanese Spider Crab - the largest crab breed in the world. They have already left quite an impression on visitors both young and old, and are sure to entertain these school holidays. A new glass bottomed boat tour will also be launching soon, giving you an exclusive look into life under the sea. Melbourne Aquarium is open all day, everyday.
