Give It Up For…. FebFast!

Local Community

Scorching hot Melbourne heatwaves aside – the beginning of each year can be a challenge. You’re returning from holidays, getting back into the swing of things and setting goals whilst simultaneously trying to make changes in your life for the better. As the old saying goes … you can’t expect a new result from an old behaviour. That’s where FebFast comes in. Today’s Chisholm & Gamon blog helps you ‘kick your habit’ with a month free of whatever ails you. Read on, and get the year off to a cracking start.

FebFast initially came into being in 2007, when FebFast’s Nicole Healy was nursing a terrible hangover earned from a little too much festive cheer. She decided an alcohol-free month would be good for her health, and thought she’d get friends and family to support her ‘dry’ month by donating money to the Youth Support and Advocacy Service. YSAS helps young people deal with issues of alcohol and drug dependency. Good cause, right? Anyhoo – years on, FebFast is an opportunity to kick ANY habit for a month that no longer serves you.

Where’s My Coffee?!

Are you a little TOO grumpy if you don’t have your fix o’ joe in the morning? We all know that Melbourne is the city of the coffee connoisseur. But the line between connoisseurship and having a caffeine crutch? It’s all too fine. Take a month off the black tar (… and chocolate ….. and caffeinated tea ….. and cola soft drinks) and reap the health benefits of a body free of stimulants. Plus, by taking part and kicking YOUR habit, you’ll be helping raise money for youth addiction services.

I’ll Check Facebook…. Just One More Time

Check your Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/Pinterest/Email before you hop out of bed in the morning? Just to get the day off on the right note? Guilty as charged! Sloooooow things down and connect with people in the real world by disconnecting from a device – or maybe from social networking – for 28 days. FebFast has some helpful guidelines if you can’t bear to disconnect completely  - no use of digital after 8pm. Who knows how you’ll feel after? Better, we’re sure.

Give Sugar and Grog the Flick

Here’s a factoid to freak you out. Australians each on average 34 teaspoons of sugar a day. The recommended amount is 8-9 teaspoons. Little wonder type two diabetes is on the rise. Take care of your health and join health bloggers like LolaBerry with 28 days sugarfree.

FebFast is at heart a cause to raise funds for YSAS. Select your habit to kick, commit and tell your networks and raise some moolah to help adolescents rid themselves of serious drug and alcohol problems. Everyone wins. We’d be happy to share your FebFast fundraising page on our social media channels, too! Click here to register and find out more.
