Can You Dig It? Melbourne Music Week 2013

Local Community

'The hills are alive with the sound of music,' - well, Melbourne is, at the very least! Melbourne Music Week is back for its fourth year from the 15th to the 24th of November, and Chisholm & Gamon are already 'singing' its praises. If you are looking for a 'toe tapping'
and tuneful good time, check out our low-down on this year's festival.

Over ten nights and nine days, Melbourne Music Week transforms the city of
into a stage, with performances held at almost 60 unique locations across town. With over 230 artists set to get your bodies pumping, this year's program is the biggest and best yet! Artists include Australian icon, Renee Geyer and the beguiling 'boys with the bells,' Pantha Du Prince & The Bell Laboratory. No matter what your preference of genre is, or how much or how little rhythm you may have, there is guaranteed to be something to get you humming, clicking or clapping along!

The beauty of this 'upbeat' bash is that it is much more than just a music festival.
Melbourne Music Week is a celebration of a vast array of creative industries,
including art, multimedia, film and everything in between. Our pick of the cultural program is Peter Weir's iconic Australian film, Picnic at Hanging Rock, which will be screened at ACMI. After the viewing, stick around to hear solo artist, front woman and founding  member of Magic Dirt, Adalita's views on how the film impacted on her both personally and creatively.

What would a festival be without the freebies? Melbourne Music Week has numerous
events on offer that will see you leaving your wallets at home and your
pennies in your pockets. If you're looking to have a laugh and 'lose yourself in the
music,' then we recommend 'No lights, No Lycra' (NLNL). This is a dance community
founded in Melbourne 2009 by unruly dance students, Alice Glenn and Heidi Barrett.
Why unruly you ask? Because there are NO teachers, NO lights,
NO steps to learn, NO technique and NO lycra! It is simply a space where you can let go,
dance out, shake it out and forget the stresses of the week through movement.

WHERE: Campbell Arcade Melbourne, 3000.
WHEN: 21 November, 2013.
TIME: 6PM-9PM.
