C&G’s Summer Suburb Spotlight Series: St Kilda

We’re back with the second instalment of our summer suburb spotlight series! This week, C&G are focusing on the haunts of the southside’s hippest residents - St Kilda. Join C&G as we show you the best things about summer in St Kilda. Ps. It includes free ice cream!

More than just a backpacker’s haven, St Kilda’s trendy aesthetic and beachside location has allowed it to evolve into a cultural hub with something for everyone. From beach volleyball to esplanade walks and turmeric lattes, there’s much to adore about this blue-chip suburb.

Beach Volleyball

Get active on the sand or sip cocktails in true Cali style during the St Kilda beach volleyball season. In partnership with Republica bar, volleyball is the southside’s beach sport of choice. Ideal for staying active in the warmer months and a fun, stress-free way to try something new.

Luna Park

One of St Kilda’s icons, family days marinated in nostalgia are on always a summertime staple at Luna Park. Start the day right with a beach walk, before heading to Luna Park for a ride on the rollercoaster, a retro ice cream and (of course!) a family selfie. If you’re feeling brave, stop by Matcha Mylk Bar on the way home for a turmeric, smurf or algae latte. Seriously.

Acland Street

When Acland Street is sun-drenched, it’s a true summertime haven. Browse boutique shops, enjoy the Melbournian classic breakfast of avo on toast, or join the activewear tribe as you flaunt your Lorna Jane while sipping a green smoothie. An array of seasonal events hit this hip strip throughout the summer, including November’s Spring Fling Festival.

Picnics & Esplanade Walks

From St Kilda beach, you can stomp the coastline right the way down to Brighton and beyond. Alternatively, head over towards Port Melbourne and the delights of Bay Street – including the C&G office! Pack a picnic and enjoy a day exploring the local areas and swimming in the ocean. If you’re not that brave, the St Kilda Sea Baths’ ocean water pool and spa are the perfect place to relax and revive.

Fairy Penguins

Some of St Kilda’s most well-loved residents are the adorable fairy penguins that inhabit the breakwater rocks. Stop by at dusk throughout summer and you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of these tiny tots swimming in at the end of the day before climbing into their nests. You can catch them all year round, but the summer months are of course balmier, and lend themselves to a sunset cocktail afterwards at the nearby Republica or Captain Baxter bars.
