C&G’s Guide to the Reclink Community Cup 2017

Local Community

Returning for another year, the Reclink Community Cup has a new home at Collingwood’s Victoria Park. In today’s blog, C&G rounds up why this footy spectacular is worth leaving the southside for!

Reclink Australia provides arts and sporting programs to support disadvantaged Australians, and one of the biggest and most anticipated events in their calendar is the Reclink Community Cup footy match. This year the event will be held across 6 states, making a bigger impact than ever before. Since its inception in 1993, the cup has yielded a dedicated following, raising over $100,000 every year towards Reclink’s work.

The Cup’s home city of Melbourne will kick off the series of games on June 25, at Collingwood’s home of football – Victoria Park. ‘Streets of your Town’ is the theme of this year’s event, allowing each host city to celebrate their local culture in a unique way. Whether you’re a footy lover or not, the event is renowned for its feature-packed pre and post-game entertainment designed for all the family to enjoy. From music performances to fun and games, there’s something for everyone – it’s the ideal Melbourne winter’s day out.

Melbourne’s event will host rock lords Spiderbait, acclaimed Melbourne trio The Peep Tempel, hometown favourite singer/songwriter Jen Cloher, with Aussie legends Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier and She Said Zed performing The Go-Betweens classic ‘Streets of Your Town’ in line with the cup’s theme. For the kids, Murray Wiggle will make an appearance, alongside Wally Meanie’s Bubblegum Machine.

C&G encourages you to brave the chill this June and get involved in this fantastic event. All proceeds go towards funding programs by Reclink Australia, each supporting disadvantaged youth and those suffering from homelessness, mental illness and disabilities through engagement in sports, the arts and recreation. Buy tickets online or on the day, and round up your family and friends for one great day out.
