C&G Highlights of the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show

Local Community

The
Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is back in 2016, bringing world-class garden and floral design into the spotlight across five days from March 16 to 20, at the Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens. Why not inspire your own home and garden by visiting the show this year? C&G has the highlights to brighten up your weekend.

Gardens by Twilight

Want an opportunity to see the Show Gardens and floral designs by starlight? Enter via the Great Hall of Flowers on the ground floor of the Royal Exhibition Building, at the Corner of Nicholson Street and Victoria Parade. Discover the Landscape Show Gardens and Achievable Gardens while enjoying onsite food and drink from 6pm. You can get tickets here.

The Disney Fairies Children’s Garden

This year, the children’s garden is a delightful journey into the magical world of Disney fairies. With colouring and craft workshops for kids, interactive entertainment, a ‘chill out’ zone and the opportunity to meet Arlo and Sport from The Good Dinosaur – it’s bound to be a good weekend for the littlies.

The Great Hall of Flowers

Victoria’s leading floral designers have assembled an exhibition to delight the senses with the Great Hall of Flowers at the Royal Exhibition Building. Showcasing the best of the best when it comes to international and Australian floriculture, the floral wonderland will also feature a Retail Flower Market, so that you can take home some fresh blooms of your own.

Growers Walk of Art

Eleven artists come together to present a series of individually designed floral sculptures. With works from John Olsen to Charles Blackman, the displays invite visitors to interpret each piece, all of which are handcrafted from local flora.

Garden Sculpture Exhibition

The Association of Sculptors collaborates with the International Flower and Garden Show this year to present an open exhibition at the Carlton Gardens. The works of art are available for purchase, but also function as a source of inspiration for those looking to create their own outdoor haven at home. Running along the Central Boulevard, the site has a beautiful view of the Hochgurtel Fountain, so it’s definitely worth a visit.

To make your day run smoothly, you can purchase tickets to the show in advance – day passes range from $10 for a child to $27 for adults, or $60 for the whole family, and can be purchased here. You might also like to grab the PDF map of the show, which can be found here. C&G hopes hope you have a lovely time!
