Australia Day By The Bay

Local Community

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, OI OI OI!!! It’s that (sometimes cringey) time of the year - when we collectively dress in our green and gold, wave our cocktail flags and whack another shrimp on the barbie. At C&G we want to do our fellow Aussies proud with a curated selection of top Australia Day events for 2014.

Tidal Rhythms At The Bowl – A Celebration of Coastal and Island Cultures.

This Australia Day celebrate at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl with ‘Tidal Rhythms at the Bowl,’ an island hopping fest that will take you on an adventure across the oceans, highlighting the diversity of our island home. Melbourne’s own Ska Orchestra (MSO) will be headlining the event, fronted by the one and only Nicky Bomba (Bomba, Bustamento, John Butler Trio). Come along with friends and family, grab some food from the pop-up market, have a boogie, and soak up the sounds of coastal and island cultures.

Australia Day Parade.

“Let Us Sing” is the theme for the 2014 Australia Day Parade, one which encourages all Victorians to unite as one on Australian Day - to honor and support our diverse community and culture. A feature of Melbourne’s Australia Day celebrations for the past 12 years, this free and fun family event incorporates around 60 groups and 4,000 participants. Approximately 10,000 people line the street to pay tribute to the many activities undertaken in Victoria, including sport, art, culture, work and recreation. As the 2014 title suggests, “Let us Sing” will have a particular emphasis on music, dance and song. The Parade starts at 11am and concludes at 11.45am, running along Swanston Street to the Kings Domain Gardens.
