5 Reasons to Move to St Kilda

Local Community

In today’s blog, C&G lists five of the many reasons why St Kilda is a one-of-a-kind Bayside suburb to make your home! Dynamic and diverse, St Kilda is a family and pet-friendly community ideal for those who enjoy relaxing at home as much as they relish getting out on the boardwalk. With organic cafes, incredible cake shops and chic boutiques dotted down Acland Street, St Kilda is a multicultural community that’s as welcoming as Luna Park’s iconic smile suggests.

1.  Architecture

From Victorian terrace houses to art deco apartments and Edwardian-era homes, St Kilda is an important part of Melbourne’s architectural history. Of particular note are the imposing mansions sitting regally along the famous Esplanade – only to be outdone by the heritage-listed Palais Theatre which regularly plays host to spectacular shows, gigs and comedic acts.

2.  Markets

The weekly St Kilda Esplanade Market sees more than 150 local makers setting up their unique craft stalls every Sunday. Take your pick from artisan boho frocks, stone jewelry, art prints and organic preserved treats - not only does the market support the local community, it also offers sustainable goods. The ideal place to find gifts and homewares made by passionate artisans.

3.  Location

St Kilda is rich in amenities, with everything you need in easy walking distance. Just 20 minutes from the CBD, St Kilda’s famous 96 tram will also take you to Carlton, Fitzroy and Brunswick with ease. There’s also the Balaclava train stopping through Bayside suburbs all the way to Sandringham to enjoy.

4.  St Kilda Botanical Gardens

With a large children’s playground, beautiful rose gardens and novelty chessboard, St Kilda Botanical Gardens is a green retreat for those looking for solitude or a place to relax. This park is particularly great for picnics, BBQ’s with friends and outdoor fun with the kids.

5.  Luna Park

First opened in 1912, it’s hard not to notice the gigantic smiley facade that is the essence of Luna Park. With amusement rides, novelty games and rollercoasters - this theme park is a great time for both kids and adults. If you are not a thrill-seeker, enjoy the delicious fairy floss, soft serve ice-cream and traditional hot dogs from the kiosk.
