White Night 2017: The C&G Edit

Local Community

Possibly the most Instagrammed event on Melbourne’s cultural calendar, White Night is an annual spectacle that’s hard to ignore. It’s a dusk-til-dawn series of eye-boggling installations, dazzling light shows and entrancing street performances, with music, dance and art in every direction! If you’re planning on attending White Night on February 18, it’s worth planning your event so as not to miss out on any of the marvelous features on show. Here’s a few of C&G’s highlights to help you out.

Viktor&Rolf: Inside Out

National Gallery of Victoria (NGV)

Inspired by the major exhibition now showing at the National Gallery of Victoria, ‘Viktor&Rolf: Inside Out’ will create the illusion of a show that ‘breaks through’ the walls of the gallery and into the night. With lights, music and fashion aplenty, it’s set to be an eye-popper! Best viewed from 8.30pm.

‘The Medusa’ by John Fish

Alexandra Gardens

Melbourne-based studio John Fish have created a stunning, majestic ‘sky jellyfish’ titled ‘The Medusa.’ Emerging from the Yarra River to flex her tentacles and show off her colours, the work will be accompanied by an eerie soundtrack to entice onlookers into the strange, dream world from which she came. Check it out anytime between 7pm and 7am (there’ll be less crowds in the early hours of the morning).

Roaming Entertainment

One of the most exciting things about White Night is that there’s no way of predicting the exact wonders you’ll come across – although we’ve done our best to try! From the incredible, stiltwalking characters of ‘Stiltuesque’ to the world class acrobats of Cirque du Soleil’s ‘Kooza’ – the city will be alive in every corner! Even the statues will take on new personalities, with ‘The Secret Life of Statues’ transforming iconic Melbourne landmarks into friendly characters of the night.
