With the temperature clocking in at two degrees this morning, it’s safe to say Winter is officially here. Don’t let your spirits drop too much because good old Melbourne has plenty of fun winter activities up its sleeve for you to enjoy. Here’s C&G’s guide to the wondrous world of Melbourne winter.
Melbourne’s giant ice slide
Yes, you did indeed read that right. Melbourne is getting a giant ice slide at Southbank. The 40m long, 4m high slide will be constructed over three days, and both kids and adults will be able to slip and slide in a rubber sledge for as little as $10. Oh, and this is Melbourne, so it wouldn’t be complete without a food truck park on site, would it?
Winter ice rink
As ever, the Federation Square ice rink will be installed to keep the smiles on our faces until the warm sun shows itself again. From 18th June to 17th July, you can quite literally get your skates on and show off your finest ice moves. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 1st June, so book in early to make sure you get the slot you’re after.
Free winter fitness at Fed Square
Ever heard the phrase ‘summer bodies are made in winter’? Get ahead of the game on your summer bod with free workout sessions at Federation Square from Healthy Lifestyle Lounge. Join the team on Tuesday evenings and Friday mornings for a 45-minute session that’ll get your heart pumping.
Queen Vic Winter Night Market
The cosy Winter Night Market returns on 1st June, which means our midweek blues will be warmly offset with hot chocolate, mulled wine and that soothing aroma of tasty street food.
The Light in Winter
Now in its 10th year, The Light in Winter festival in Federation Square returns for the first 18 days of June. The vibrant program of arts, music and culture is accompanied by a cosy campfire, and the festival comes to a climax on June 18, with the closing winter solstice celebration.
