The Australian Open: Highlights for Everyone

Local Community

With the Australian Open Festival having kicked off on January 18, there’s no better time than now to get amongst the tennis mania buzzing through the City of Melbourne. From free work outs with some of Australia’s top health experts to lunching at the city’s best food trucks, you can even get in a hit of your own at the TAC People’s Court while watching a match.
C&G brings you the highlights – its one, love and Melbourne is in the lead!

The Canadian Club Racquet Club

Whether or not you’re a whisky fan, this old school tennis pop up bar is set to be a social hub during the Australian Open. Watch the games live on a big screen, catch a local band and try a cocktail within convenient walking distance of Flinders Street station, on the easily accessed Northern side of Birrarung Marr

The TAC People’s Court

Inspired to have a match of your own? The festival precinct will also play host to a full-size tennis court where fans can have a hit, as well as catching live celebrity matches throughout the tournament free of charge. The court will be open from 11am until late, every night of the festival.

Melbourne’s best food trucks

There’s nothing like a festival to bring all our favourite food trucks into one place. Destinations include Gazi, Mamasita, Uncle, Cobb Lane, Mistress Estelle by Scott Pickett, Gelato Messina, Combi, Huxtaburger and Huxtable featuring Mr Claws. Read more about the food line up  here.

Woolworth’s Kids’ World

An inflatable playground from Nickelodeon. World famous Slime Lab. Cartoon character meet-and-greets. Sounds like fun for the whole family! Woolworth’s has sponsored a daily fun field for children and adults to enjoy the tennis together, where kids can also have a hit of their own at the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots mini courts. Open throughout the festival from 9am to 7pm.

Free workouts

Bachelor Sam Wood, netball champion Sarah Wall, health coach Alex Pendlebury and former Olympian Steph Prem are just some of the well known health experts that will be leading free workout sessions every morning at Birrarung Marr. And Sam Wood wants everyone there, regardless of your fitness level. ‘The sessions are for everyone, so if you’re super fit or just getting into exercise, I hope to see you there.’ Oh, we’ll be there Sam. Don’t you worry!
