Places to Volunteer in Melbourne’s South

Local Community

Bayside is a wonderful place to live, but it’s not just the fresh ocean air and excellent schools that make it such a great community. It’s the people that live and work locally! Whether you’ve relocated to the area and would like to make new friends or you’ve got a little spare time and would simply like to give back – there are many charitable causes on the Southside that could use your skills and generosity.

St Kilda Mums

St Kilda Mums operates on the generosity of volunteers and donors, and provides valuable support to Melbourne families in need. Accepting donated baby clothing, toys, Manchester and more and processing them either with cleaning or repairs – St Kilda Mums are able to supply families experiencing financial hardship with the items needed to care for children. Other volunteer tasks include meeting with social workers to help them choose the best items for their clients, transporting goods and office administration tasks. Sacred Heart Mission

Did you know that the Sacred Heart Mission serves over 400 meals out of their St Kilda Dining Hall every day? The Mission runs a range fantastic programs, made possible by voluntary support. Whether it’s working in one of the Mission’s many op-shops, offering specialist skills in health and wellbeing to the Hands on Health Clinics and Kick Start program, or lending your time to assist with the Sacred Heart Community aged care program, your time and skills are invaluable. The National Trust

The National Trust is Australia’s premier heritage and conservation organisation. And the Victorian branch has ample options for volunteers with a passion for history, land, culture and community! With several heritage projects in and around Melbourne’s Southside (think Labassa Mansion and Rippon Lea Estate), it’s a great cause for Bayside residents to get involved with. Melbourne City Mission

You might have heard about Melbourne City Mission through their ‘Sleep at the ‘G’ initiative, which raises funds for homeless youth each year. Matching your skills and interests with opportunities to get involved, Mission volunteers can make a real difference within the community. Whether it’s helping disadvantaged young people clock up their 120 hours of driving or getting to know isolated elderly people and hear their stories, your time and energy can go a long way.
