Feeling a little stuffy indoors? That’s okay – as Melbourne’s international games festival - Fresh Air Festival - is back in 2014 and ‘fresher’ than ever! C&G urge you to visit Federation Square from the 7th until the 10th of March to explore the biggest and best new games from Australia and around the globe, including UK, Denmark and Austria. Read on to see what you can expect from this genius playground!!

Presented by Pop Up Playground and Fed Square’s Creative Program, Melbourne’s international games festival celebrates street games, participatory, constructive play and new sports. Here is just a snapshot of what you can expect from Fresh Air Festival 2014:

International designer, Serious Business (UK) present ‘Spirits Walk,’ a checkpoint game with tasks and tests, designed especially for Fresh Air Festival 2014. Players go in search for the lost gods of Melbourne and reunite at Fed Square after sunset for a masked procession. Serious Business have also teamed up with Pop Up Playground to produce Little Monsters Day Out, an interactive game where players select a toy monster from the registration tent and take them wherever they ask to go.

Details:

7th 8th and 9th of March

7pm at the Pop Up Playground tent at Federation Square

Free to play but bookings are appreciated – [email protected]

Are you game? Austria’s Vienna Street Games Conspiracy has created a simple, yet surprisingly spooky game called Weeping Angel. Played at night with torches and tiptoeing, Weeping Angel was inspired by Doctor Who’s famous Blink episode and sure to be a highlight of this gaming extravaganza.

For info on other featured games, click here or visit the Pop Up Playground page.

Games run night and day, they’re fun for all ages, and best of all they are FREE! Fresh Air Festival guest artists have placed artistic clues based on the theme of ‘Myths and Monsters of Melbourne’ around the city, so be sure to keep an eye out for haikus written on paper cranes by PrePrint, and spray can, paint tin and soft drink can sculptures created by Junky Projects. Children and adults also have the opportunity to contribute clues, stories and secrets, which will be displayed around the Constructive Play tent.
