Mark-et in your calendar: Bayside’s best markets.

Local Community

Spring is coming (hurrah!), and that means it’s almost time to spend our weekends leisurely ambling ‘round markets tasting cheeses and picking up crafty nick nacks to spruce up our homes. Today, C&G have found some of the best markets on the southside for you to pop in your calendars.

Markets are such a springtime activity, whether it’s farmers markets, food trucks or arts and crafts. The southside is packed full of markets for you to sink your weekend teeth into, so clear your plans – you’ll want to get down to these.

Bayside’s new market in November is the Bayside Design Market. Over the last weekend of the month, vendors of handmade textiles, jewellery and homewares populate Brighton Arts and Culture Centre. Curated by ceramicist Kristen Halkett, the stalls cater to a range of styles and tastes.

St Kilda Esplanade comes alive with the arts and crafts market every Sunday, from 10am-4pm in winter and 10am-5pm in summer. The latest addition to the market is the hot food stalls, so you can indulge in a weekend treat while you browse. From gifts and ceramics to stationary and skincare, the market showcases over 140 stalls.

If you’re after local produce, Bayside Farmers’ Market on the third Saturday of each month is the ideal spot. Fresh bread, meat and vegetables from local producers allows you to support the community and choose your delicious ingredients. Grab a coffee and a hot breakfast while you’re there too, and make a morning of it. Located at Trey Bit Reserve, Sandringham.

For bargain hunters, Bentleigh Sunday Market features over 145 stalls each week, full of pre-loved tech, homewares, fashions and accessories. Be prepared to search for treasure! Held at Bentleigh rail station car park.

Done with shopping and just want to fill your face with truckin’ good eats? St Kilda’s all new food truck market, Hank Marvin, has pitched up at Alma Park on Saturdays!  Food truck frequenters like Mr Burger and Cobb Lane, as well as some newbies, rock up from 9am-3pm, and the mess hall tent is the perfect place to catch up and get stuck in to some tasty street food.
