Let’s Go To Mo-Town: Movember 2014

Local Community

Get your Instagram filters at the ready, Elwood and surrounds! (Yes, C&G are soon coming to Instagram, but more on that later …) Be ready to spot and snap select members of team C&G as they grow moustaches (more Gatsby than Merv Hughes, we hope) in support of Movember 2014.

A home-grown charity initiative that has grown in popularity world-wide (now being held in 21 countries), Movember aims to change the face of men’s health through both awareness-raising and fundraising. Men are often reluctant to take action when they feel physically or mentally unwell, and Movember’s aim is to counteract this reluctance with a better understanding of the unique health challenges that men face. The core focus of funds raised for Movember 2014 will go towards supporting men’s health issues including prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s health. With suicide being the number one killer amongst younger men, it is critical that our wider community supports men’s mental health and begins to think differently about the ‘strong, silent’ ideal of Australian masculinity. Celebrate your Movember mo’ and decorate your facial hair with a floral garden. Maybe not work appropriate, but definitely a great way to start a conversation about men’s health!

Now onto the fun stuff. Not only is Movember an important fundraising event in terms of its meaningful outcomes … it is also good fun to participate in! As the rise of hipster style spreads over the suburbs of Melbourne, taking part in Movember gives you a legitimate reason to try out a moustache on your own terms.  Sign up as a Mo Bro or a Mo Sista and commit to being walking billboards for men’s health throughout the month of November. The rules are simple:

Like to incorporate Movember in the workplace? Get the conversation started by starting with a clean slate and clean shave, and raise awareness (and maybe awe) at work as your legendary moustache and Movember fundraising efforts grow. Ask for support from co-workers and start your own team fundraising page – now is the ideal time to ‘cc’ in the team on your Movember efforts and ask for donations! If you’re a business owner, you could even consider ‘dollar matching’ funds raised by your staff. Up the anti on Movember and join ‘Industry Challenges’, pitting your workplace against others in your category. A little healthy competition goes a long way!

Good luck this Movember, we look forward to admiring the fuzzy upper lip of our team and our community as November progresses.
