Keeping Them Busy – Bayside School Holiday Activities Week 1

Local Community

The sun’s out and school almost is, too. Before you start fretting about how to keep the little ones busy, C&G have compiled a few ideas to fill your first week of spring holiday mayhem.

When the school holidays roll around, it can be daunting trying to understand how you’ll keep your young ones busy every day. Luckily, there’s plenty going on in and around Bayside and the city, and we’ve found some of the best activities on offer.

While it’s not a local Bayside happening, the Royal Melbourne Show is a must-do school holiday activity, an event that runs for 10 days. Kicking off this Saturday 19th of September, the show is packed with petting zoos, fairground rides and everybody’s calling – the showbags. There’s something for all ages, so bring the whole family and bask in the spring sunshine.

For active youngsters, one of the southside’s best activities has got to be Bounce Inc. Converted warehouses contain wall-to-wall trampolines, bouncing dodge ball arenas, crash mats and slam dunk basketball hoops for kids and adults of all ages –meaning you can get involved with the holiday fun too!

Rush HQ offers another action packed school holiday day out, and it’s spot on for rainy springtime days! The indoor challenge arena features trampolines, rock climbing and high ropes, and you complete each zone against the clock. The kids will be worn out after all the excitement – you might even get them in for an early night.

As part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival, The Wonderland Spiegeltent at Docklands hosts the Good Morning Kids Show. Funny characters, enchanting stories and jolly sing-a-longs will have your family laughing throughout. With bungee trampolines on-site, fairground rides and food and drink, you can make a day of it with the variety of packages on offer.

The St Kilda favourite, Luna Park, is opening two brand new rides for the school holidays and putting on interactive music shows by the Luna Moonies for kids. With showings at 12pm and 2pm, spend the day at the park and along St Kilda beach, stopping off for a bite at Acland Street’s array of eateries.

We hope that our guide to the first week of the school holidays has filled in calendar gaps that you’ve been fretting about! Stay tuned for C&G’s week two guide – coming soon.
