Highlights of St Kilda Film Festival

Local Community

The St Kilda Film Festival is one of Australia’s biggest and most longstanding short film festivals, and it all kicks off this week! Proudly presented by the City of Port Phillip, it’s designed to support the Australian film industry, to showcase emerging talent and to provide ten days of fantastic entertainment for the local community. C&G have compiled some of the highlights to help you plan your festival.

Australia’s Top 100 Short Films

Broken up into 15 sessions, Australia’s Top 100 will be screened at St Kilda Town Hall between the 20th and the 28th of May. The films are all world-class and cover a range of genres. They’ve been submitted for a chance to win a share in the festival’s $50,000 prize pool – so the competition is hot. You can get a festival pass to attend multiple sessions, or buy individual session passes (and view the films on offer) here.

Fandor International Showcase

Fandor is an American subscription service that provides global access to international and independent films from all over the world. Fandor’s founder, Jonathan Marlow, has handpicked a program of some of the most popular and award-winning short films from the network, which will be showcased at St Kilda Town Hall on Sunday May, 22. Get tickets here.

SoundKILDA

It is what it sounds like – a feast of music videos! Sixteen video clips have been curated to showcase some of Australia’s top creative collaborations between filmmakers and musicians. View them on the big screen with state-of-the-art sound on Thursday, May 26 at 7.30pm. Check out the program here.

Workshops and Forums

If you’re a budding filmmaker yourself, you’ll love the range of free talks, panels and workshops on offer as part of St Kilda Film Festival 2016. Industry professionals will lend their expertise on May 21 for the biggest workshop of them all, appropriately titled ‘The Big Picture.’ From finance and legal to marketing and distribution, it will cover everything you need to know about making your own short film, and it’s totally free! Discover other forums with directors, producers, animators, actors, writers and more here.
