Local Community

Make your outfit selections now – as a stylish Melburnian must always be paparazzi-proof! Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is about to descend upon our city, in a stylish explosion of on-and-off runway events. Taking over venues around the city centre and occupying elegant Melbourne Town Hall from 30th August – 7th September, this extravagant festival of all things sartorially Melbourne in Spring is brought to you by the City of Melbourne. In today’s blog, the fashionisti at C&G present a highlight of must-see runways and supporting cultural events sure to have you ‘best dressed’ throughout the upcoming social season.

Runway Events

The flashing lights, the pulsating music, the scent of champagne mingling with hairspray …. it’s time to take your seat by the runway and enjoy one of the MSFW prestige fashion events! A highlight of every MSFW is Runway 1, an evening that kicks off the festival in style. See or be seen on the 2nd of September at the Melbourne Town Hall where leading designers including Aurelio Costarella (dress inset, above), Carla Zampatti, Gwendolynne and Nicolangela will present their current collections of opulent eveningwear. Fancy something a little more casual? Come to Runway 2 where it-girl favourite brands such as Alice McCall (inset below), LIFEWITHBIRD, Willow and YB J’AIME will have you clicking ‘add to cart’ before the night is over.

Free Fashion

There’s an array of free events associated with MSFW 2014, to be held at a bespoke-built venue in City Square called The Hub. Pop along to the KEVIN.MURPHY STYLE.BAR every day throughout the festival, where hair experts will help you try new fashion ‘dos and this season’s new products. Take it up a notch for the ‘complete runway look’ on Monday 1st of September by coming along to the KEVIN.MURPHY and Mecca Maxima Workshop at 6:00 pm. Experts will enlighten you with their knowledge on makeup application and styling to interpret runway-style into your everyday beauty repertoire. Don’t miss out on an annual favourite – the free, ultra-glam David Jones Runway at the Hub (a snap from last year’s DJs runway inset below). Held on Monday 1st of September with two viewings around lunchtime, this energetic show presents the best race wear fashion to come for 2014.
