Care About Men’s Health? Put A ‘Mo On It.

Local Community

Interested in changing the face of men’s health?  Here is your opportunity.  This week at Chisholm & Gamon, we encourage you to participate in some gentlemanly grooming while fundraising for men’s health. That’s right – it’s nearly Movember!

Movember is all about raising awareness and funds to support men’s health, specifically focusing on the treatment and management of prostate cancer.  Of late, Movember has also become affiliated with Beyond Blue addressing men’s mental health.

Movember has humble Melbourne origins, despite having now been adopted as a world-wide fundraising project since its inception a decade ago. It began when founder Travis Garone challenged his Fitzroy bar mates to grow trendy mo’s for charity, asking friends to donate money to a cancer organisation to support their moustachioed efforts. This initial experimentation didn’t raise a large amount of funds – but awareness of Movember and its aims grew exponentially.

Movember has been incredibly successful in more ways than one.  Not only has the charity raised in excess of $440 million for prostate cancer reach and mental health causes but it has also enjoyed fellow fundraising events in 21 countries!

So, how can you support this fantastic cause?  Jump on the official Movember website, register yourself and start growing a mo!  Most mo’s will take a good 6 weeks to “look the part”, so we recommend getting a head start and ensuring your colleagues support you. Tell them about your participation (so they’re not wary of your increasingly fuzzy top lip) and ask them to donate to the Movember cause.

We’re sure many of you are asking what type of moustache to grow during this period.  A pertinent question indeed.  Some of the more popular styles include “The Handlebar” and the “Tom Selleck” is never too far from any CEO’s mind.

Growing a moustache requires commitment to both grooming and pride.  Yes, you must wear you “stache” the right way!  The first few weeks may be a little uncomfortable as your mo takes shape, so avoid itching that top lip and keep your eyes on the ‘mo’ prize.  Soon enough, you will be able to shape your moustache in an array of impressively manly styles. We’ve been advised that you should “… look after your mo.  Fertilize it, keep it clean and keep it neat.”

The next time you see us at Chisholm & Gamon, we hope you are sporting a mo to be proud of!   We are sure some in our team will give you a run for your money with the ‘stache they themselves are sporting.
