Local Community

Summer is setting, but not on Somerset Street! Today,
C&G takes you on a tour of the beautiful blue-chip suburb of St. Kilda, where you’ll find 5 Somerset Street nestled in a quiet residential pocket near near Alma Road and Argyle Street. The property is just minutes from the urban amenities that make St. Kilda such a cherished hub of beachside culture, so let’s take a stroll, shall we?

The Palais Theatre

It’s only a seven-minute drive to one of Melbourne’s most celebrated and diverse entertainment venues! The Palais Theatre is a key setting for the Melbourne Comedy Festival, along with hosting a range of big name rock n’ roll acts, the Australian Ballet and indie acts like Matt Corby. The famous Espy (Esplanade Hotel) is also close by, bringing even more great musical acts to the local area.

The Astor Theatre

It’s just a fifteen-minute walk to get to the Astor, a classic cinema with an illustrious heritage. The building’s first use an entertainment venue goes back to 1913, when it was called the Diamond Theatre. Since then, the site has hosted a confectioner, livestock stables and a motor garage! While it’s been torn down and rebuilt multiple times, the site’s rich history gives visitors a nostalgic sense – perfectly complimenting the theatre’s diverse program of classic films and documentaries.

The Jam Factory

Take the northbound Route 78 light rail up Chapel Street to get to the Jam Factory, South Yarra’s hotspot for movies, shopping and dining. Topshop and Target are just a few of the retailers in the vicinity, with retro-style diner TGI Fridays heading up a chain of foodie favourites.

St Kilda Beach

Exercise, entertainment and all-round relaxation at your doorstep! Host a BBQ, join a walking group or pack a picnic because it’s only a ten-minute drive to the beach and the Esplanade. The foreshore is also the site of the annual (and unmissable) St Kilda Festival, making St Kilda residents some of the luckiest Melbournites in town, every summer. You’ll also be spoiled for fun things to do, with Luna Park open throughout the seasons near the foreshore.

Transport

The Route 67 tram stops at Argyle Street / St Kilda Road, just five minutes walk away, and runs through to Melbourne Central and Melbourne University. Windsor station is similarly close by.  Major venues around St Kilda have ample parking, but you might also like to get a bicycle if you don’t already have one! It’s a great way to get around, and there are plenty of scenic routes to be taken!
