C&G’s Summer Suburb Spotlight Series: Elwood
With summer around the corner, we’ve decided to treat you to a suburb spotlight series. We’ll be showcasing our favourite Bayside suburbs each week, and showing you how best to enjoy the summer months in some of the southside’s best locales. This week, we’re bringing you the C&G guide to Elwood.
Mastering the perfect balance between proximity to the city and beachside living, Elwood shoots straight to the top of our Bayside hit list. Nestled between vibrant St Kilda and the popular family hub of Brighton, Elwood is the ideal summer spot for both young professionals, families and seniors alike.
Beach days
The picturesque esplanade stretches for kilometres into the distance, offering unparalleled views of Port Phillip Bay and down to the city skyline. Enjoy a walk, run or cycle as far as your imagination takes you, listening to the crashing waves and children’s laughter as they frolic on the shores. When morning or afternoon tea time strikes, pitstop at any of the array of beachside eateries - like Sails on the Bay - for a coffee, snack or crisp glass of Sauvignon, and allow the hours to drift away. Warning: these activities may evoke that vacation feeling!
The village feel
Elwood’s village feel – attributed to its winding streets and peaceful canal-side location – let you get absorbed by the community vibe. You’d never think you’re just 8km from the CBD. Enjoy a walk, ride or picnic along the canal’s edge, and explore the original art deco buildings that line the residential streets.
The central village-style shopping strip offers cafes, restaurants and organic produce stores in abundance. A stone’s throw from the beach itself, you’ll feel the ocean fresh air as you go about your daily errands along Ormond Road. The palm tree lined streets and slow paced traffic conditions make for a calm and content morning stroll. And of course, the bright and welcoming C&G Elwood office!
