C&G’s Guide to Wining and Dining in Mount Martha

Local Community

We’ve got Bayside covered when it comes to real estate, but we’ve also got great admiration for the epicurean experts behind the coastline’s best wineries, restaurants and cellar doors! Today, C&G brings you a handy guide to one of our favourite foodie areas on the bay: Mount Martha.

Perfect as both a forever suburb or a holiday home getaway spot, Mount Martha is located at the farthermost point of our serviced suburbs. A hub for coastal relaxation, the stretches of sandy beach, village-like community and scenic parklands are what makes it a true frontman of the Port Phillip region. But that’s not all.

Mount Martha’s dining scene is shrouded in all the beachy feels, with wooden decking beckoning cocktail-fuelled summer nights, and locally sourced produce earning pride of place among the menus of the most popular eateries. Here are a few of the best:

East

Bringing contemporary dining to Mount Martha, East hits the high notes when it comes to unique experiences. Following an almost Heston-inspired epicurean trend, expect dishes featuring liquid nitrogen, trendy kimchi and more gels, foams and soils than the Masterchef kitchen. Its modern ethos certainly doesn’t take away from the quality, though! For more classic eats, visit during the daytime – that’s when you’ll find beautiful fresh salads and ocean-inspired dishes. By night, the five and eight course degustations are on offer for the more seasoned winer and diners.

Our pick: go for the degustation! A delectable crème brulee with chai tea ice cream frequents the final course.

Volpino

Currently claiming #1 spot on TripAdvisor’s best Mount Martha Restaurants, Volpino brings the classic tastes of Italy to the bay. Expect rosemary infused focaccias, freshly seasonal salads and wood-fired pizzas to die for. For those with a keen eye on the booze pulse, you’ll find an eclectic mix of wines from Spain, Portugal, Italy and France, and the list is ever-changing according to the tastes and discoveries of the owner, David.

Our pick: Tartufo pizza (fior di latte, mushroom, rosemary, truffle oil, smoked scamorza) washed down with Moorooduc Estate Pinot Noir.

Josephine’s Restaurant at the Briars

Rich in character and history, Josephine’s at the Briars is drenched in love from its newest owners. Evident across the menu, retained period features and friendly service, everything about the restaurant and function venue comes straight from the heart. Surrounded by rolling hills and views aplenty, Josephine’s is the ideal spot set back from the main bustle of the foreshore. On a sunny summer’s day, pop by for a picnic crafted by the chefs and packed into a basket for enjoyment on the lawn. In winter, cosy up and banish the cold while enjoying a steamy sticky date pudding.

Our pick: Josephine’s share platter for two (Extra virgin olive oil and balsamic, pepperoni, assorted dips, dolmades, warm chorizo, dukkha and olives with fresh house baked crusty bread) and local Foxeys Hangout Pinot Gris.
