C&G’s Guide to What’s on This Winter

Local Community

The team at C&G are excited to embrace what Melbourne and Bayside have to offer as more restrictions begin to lift! We’ve said goodbye to Autumn, and vowed to no longer take for granted activities and outings as our favourite venues closed and events were postponed. But despite the days becoming colder, our city is returning to life! Even with social distancing remaining firm, we can begin enjoying food festivals, art shows, football from our couches and a meal at the local pub – amongst other things! Enjoy C&G’s latest guide to what’s on this winter – the Bayside and Melbourne edition.

Bayside

Let’s begin with an activity that truly defines Bayside – brunch! Or perhaps a pub meal or tapas floats your boat. Regardless, it’s more important than ever to support your favourite Bayside locals during these times. Unsure of where to dine next? Here’s a list of the best eateries:

Elwood: Plain Sailing, Elwood Bathers, Jimmi Jamz, Sanity Burger, Dandelion

Port Melbourne: Station Street Trading Co., Grey & Bliss, Hurricane Handsome, Rubira’s, Bay 101

As Bayside beaches also reopen, seaside walks or a dip in the ocean – if you dare – might be on the cards. Challenge yourself to swimming laps in Middle Brighton Sea Baths at Brighton Beach, discover the indigenous foreshore plants in Hampton, tackle the tracks and look over the red cliffs of Sandringham Beach.

Melbourne

When it comes to CBD dine-in restaurants and cafes, you’re spoiled for choice. Be sure to make reservations, as venues are required to follow safety measures and limit customer numbers. This Time Out guide lists fantastic city options, as well as various hot spots in neighbouring Melbourne suburbs.

Shopping centres are also back up and running, so you can get your retail fix or take back your online iso-shopping disasters. Melbourne Central, Emporium and Bourke Street Mall are teeming with bustle again, with new procedures in place to ensure customer safety. You’ll find all information regarding opening hours and special offers on their respective websites.

We’re still anticipating the re-opening of other cultural attractions, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Museum, the State Library, and cinemas! Each theatre will have varied opening dates, but Carlton’s cherished Cinema Nova will be showing the best new releases and cult classics from the 22nd of June!

Greater Melbourne

Speaking of more movies, many drive-in cinemas have already reopened! Take a road trip to Dandenong for Lunar Drive-in, or Dromana 3 Drive-in to catch an old classic from the comfort of your car.

While you’re there, plan a drive along the Mornington Peninsula or visit the Dandenong Ranges. Otherwise, make some hot chocolate or mulled wine, and enjoy the picturesque scenic attractions. Don’t forget to rug up!
