C&G’s Guide to the School Holiday Activities in Bayside and Beyond

Local Community

Once Christmas is done and dusted, it’s time to get stuck into some summer school holiday activities. C&G has rounded up some of the best school holiday programs and events in Bayside and beyond, to pack your kids’ weeks with fun and joy.

Movies

The classic school holiday past time – a good family movie. The two new animated releases - Moana and Sing - make for a fun day out suitable for all ages. The Langham Hotel has even launched a Sing-themed High Tea, featuring all the film’s best characters! If the cool change hits, snuggle in for a double feature at the Astor – they’re playing some classics this January, such as Willy Wonka and Snow White!

Build It 4 Kids

The Build It 4 Kids workshops at Mentone Primary School lets kids get hands-on with Lego! Children will have fun while exercising their construction and creativity skills. With classes throughout January, it’s the perfect mix of education and entertainment.

Slide the Square

It’s that time of year again - when part of Melbourne’s CBD gets transformed into a giant slip ‘n’ slide! This time ‘round, Federation Square will be turned into a watery fun park for just 12 days in January. The city’s town square will be home to 75m of slippy sliding fun for adults and kids! Grab your tickets before it sells out – this’ll be a day to remember.

Luna Park School Holiday Program

Luna Park is the place to be during the school holidays! Until the 29th of January, the park will be packed out with fun rides, games and attractions for kids of all ages. The Circus of Screams returns for another year, too. You’ll don your 3D glasses and navigate your way through a mismatched world of darkness – if you dare!

Gasworks Superhero Training

Your little heroes can become superheroes during the school holidays at Port Melbourne Town Hall. The event, run by Gasworks Arts Park, is designed for children aged 5-8, and will teach them what it takes to be a superhero. Kids will spend time crafting their very own superhero cape, learning to rap, move and act like their own inner superhero. Family and friends can join at the end of each session and watch the final performance!

Summer by The Sea

This is Bayside school holidays at its finest. The Summer by The Sea program is designed to encourage children to engage with the coastal life around them, and immerse themselves in ocean and marine learning. Activities include snorkelling in Elwood, wildlife discovery in St Kilda and geocaching at Beaumaris! These fun-packed programs are the ideal way to get your children to appreciate the beauty of the Bayside area, while stimulating their senses and boosting their environmental awareness.
