C&G’s Guide to Melbourne Design Week & Open State

Local Community

Melbourne Design Week 2017 runs from March 16-26, showcasing the very best of Melbourne design and style. C&G has compiled the ultimate guide to the best events throughout the program, including ‘Open State’ tours by Open House Melbourne.

The theme of this year’s Melbourne Design Week is ‘Design Values.’ The program asks, ‘what does design value, and how do we value design?’ Through exhibitions, tours, talks, workshops and the Melbourne Art Book Fair, Melbourne Design Week explores design and architecture in their many forms. Here’s some of the highlights.

Talks

Your chance to get up close and personal with some of the design world’s best experts, Melbourne Design Week talks include a breakfast chat with The Good Copy, the Business and Design Seminar by AGDA and a look at the historical origins of the contemporary chair design with NGV curator, Matthew Martin.

Tours

Appreciate design in its rawest form with tours lead by creative experts from across the world. ‘Architours’ will take groups on a tour of the northern end of the CBD, exploring the evolution of the city’s architecture from post-war to present, while NGV International leads a jewellery-focused tour of the CBD’s best galleries and stores. An exciting addition to this year’s tour program is Open State by Open House Melbourne. This year will see bigger and better spaces opened up to the public, so you can experience the interiors of unlikely locations including the Medibank building, Bombardier and Planex. It’s all about celebrating the fusion between design and business!
