C&G’s Guide to Febfast: Pause for a Cause

Local Community

Pause for a cause this February with Febfast – the initiative empowering Australians to give up something they love for one whole month. Signing up helps raise funds to disadvantaged young members of the community, so C&G is bringing you a guide to giving up to give more this February.

Now in its 10th year, the annual Febfast campaign has raised over $8 million for Australians in need, and it’s all down to the Febfasters getting involved and giving up their one vice. That could be smoking, alcohol, sugar, coffee, tea – pretty much anything you love. You got this! Collect donations as you go by betting your mates that you can make it through, and upon signup, you’ll get to select a donation amount. This ensures every single Febfaster is making a difference.

Give up sugar

It’s all the rage at the moment, and Febfast is your chance to get in on the action. In recent years, sugar has been linked to a number of negative effects on the human body, and more and more people are banishing the white stuff. Check out I Quit Sugar for more information and tips on giving up, and if you’re looking for a Bayside cafe with sugar free goodness, try Brighton’s Fox in the Box.

Give up smoking

The opportunity to kick-start a healthier you with a charitable cause is the perfect motivation to stay on track. Giving up smoking not only benefits the Febfast cause, but will dramatically reduce your risk of chronic and life threatening diseases. For tips and advice, Quit Now has plenty of government approved advice, or these creative ways to help you kick the darts could be what gets you going.

Go vego or vegan

Giving up meat – or animal products altogether – has also been linked to a healthier lifestyle. If you’re keen to see how your body responds, or you just want to get into the habit of reducing your reliance on meat and dairy, going vego or vegan for Febfast is the perfect kick-starter. Head to The Vegan Society for recipes, tips and information on the benefits to your body and the environment.

Give up alcohol

It’s the big one. Dry January, Dry July, dry anything – we all find it hard to give up the booze. You might not think you’re a big drinker, but summer nights on the deck with the neighbours can quickly escalate to an ice cold bottle of Sauv. It’s not easily done, but going dry for the month of February will give your body that post-Christmas detox you’ve been putting off, and raise money for those in need. Now, that’s not to say you can’t enjoy a refreshing glass of something tasty. It’s summer, after all! Luckily, Bayside is home to some of the tastiest mocktails in Melbourne. Try Elwood’s Lezzet for a European-style mocktail to wash down some delicious Turkish cuisine, or soak up Captain Baxter’s beach views while sipping on something from their Dry Cargo menu – like the Nojito! Just as refreshing as a Mojito, with no headache the next morning. Arrrrriba!

While your drinks fridge might be drying up for February, the Bayside property market certainly isn’t. With a clear head from your booze-free weekends – and all that energy you’ll have from your healthier lifestyle – it’ll be the perfect time to get your property plans rolling with C&G
