C&G’s Guide to Bastille Day 2017

Local Community

An annual celebration of French culture, Bastille Day 2017 falls on Friday 14th July. With celebrations, food festivals and parties to be held all over Melbourne, C&G has compiled a list of our favourite spots to enjoy ‘joie de vivre’ across the city.

Bastille Day Festival

This year’s Bastille Day Festival will be held at North Melbourne’s Meat Market, and will run all weekend from 14-16 July. Packed with French culture, visitors can enjoy workshops, art installations, performances, masterclasses, competitions and delicious food and drink at the French Market. There’s plenty of kid’s activities, too, including language classes and cake decoration. This year’s festival will be presented by Victoria's oldest French-Australian association, the Alliance Française de Melbourne, founded in 1890.

Bastille Eve at Entrecôte

South Yarra’s resident French eatery, Entrecôte, always lays on something fabulous to honour Bastille Day. This Thursday 13 July, celebrate Bastille Day Eve with a four-course meal and matched wines while being sweetly serenaded by La Nuit Blanche. With a French themed dress code and tickets to Paris to Provence later in the year up for grabs, it's well worth putting in the effort.

Bastille Day at the House of Wine and Food, Port Melbourne

The House of Wine and Food in Port Melbourne will celebrate French gastronomy and culture over four days from July 12-16. With each day celebrating a different flavour of France, this is the ultimate tour for your tastebuds. On offer is a cheese and wine tasting, Parisian High Tea and a special Bastille Day menu featuring authentic Coq au Vin and traditional dessert Vacherin.

Bastille Day at Home

If you're throwing your own Bastille day celebrations, give Broadsheet’s crème brûlée a try. Pair with your favourite Chardonnay, Pinot Noir or authentic Champagne, and practice your finest French accent.
