Local Community

September is on the horizon and with the arrival of spring comes Melbourne Fashion Week (MFW) 2017! Kicking off on the 1st of September, the annual event features over seven jampacked days of incredible runways, fashion forums, exhibitions and events. In today’s blog, C&G share our most anticipated events for the season.

MFW Opening Night

On the 1st of September MFW launches with a night of fine fashion, spectacular shopping and endless entertainment. MFW are partnering with Vogue Australia this year to present Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out (VAEFNO). This event will see hundreds of retailers offer exclusive specials and in-store experiences across the city. The VAEFNO Official Launch Moment kicks off in Bourke St Mall, followed by a free Emporium Melbourne Opening Night Runway, where Little Bourke Street will transform into an open-air runway! If there was an ever a night on the town to look forward to – this is it! Melbourne’s entire CBD will be alive with special designer treats and entertainment.

Everything Dior.

2017 marks 70 years of Christian Dior Couture and MFW are not shying away from a celebration! The National Gallery of Victoria, one of the world’s most prestigious couture houses, will present The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture. This exhibition is exclusive to Melbourne and includes over 140 garments designed by Christian Dior Couture between 1947 and 2017. If you’d like to add a little party to your couture experience, The NGV are also hosting Friday Nights At Dior where you can experience the exhibition after hours accompanied by great eats, great beats and all the fashion talk you could ask for. There are only two Fridays that fall within the festival so purchase your tickets today.

Student Runways

At C&G we love to see up and coming local designers in the spotlight. MFW’s student runways epitomize new talent and fresh vision, and they’re held at glamorous Melbourne Town Hall. Don’t miss this chance to see the next big thing in Australian fashion! There are two runways to enjoy on September 7th, one showcasing the work of students of RMIT and the other a collective group of Melbourne’s best fashion schools. Purchase your tickets here.

Fun with Colour featuring Linda Jackson

Melbournites are well-known for favoring monochrome tones – so a splash of colour, courtesy of Australian fashion icon Linda Jackson, is an exciting edition to this years’ MFW program. In this free intimate workshop and exhibition, Jackson will talk through the process she uses to translate all her colourful ideas from paint to print. You can also step into her fashion studios and browse carefully selected pieces from Jackson’s incredible career.
