Book It In: C&G on the Children’s Book Festival 2015

Local Community

An event for the young and the young at heart, the annual Children’s Book Festival highlights the magic and wonder of storytelling. This year’s festival is being held this Sunday 22nd of March at The Wheeler Centre and State Library. Join some of Australia’s best-loved and emerging children’s authors and illustrators for a day of reading, music, games and laughter. Chisholm & Gamon have the lowdown on events sure to delight the whole family.

Meet the Authors and Illustrators

There are over twenty amazing children’s authors and illustrators attending the festival this year. All events are free, but bookings are required for certain sessions as spots fill up so fast! So if your child can’t put down The 52 Story Treehouse or if you grew up reading There’s a Hippopotamus on our Roof Eating Cake, then booking a session with Andy Griffiths and Hazel Edwards is the way to go! Workshop Zone

Flex those creative muscles and make some amazing creations to take home at the festival’s Workshop Zone! Hosted by Australia’s leading illustrators, children will be guided to create mobiles, funny faces, grungy pets, underwater creatures and their very own ‘lost thing’ based on award winning and much-loved picture books. To find out more, view the festival program here.

Outdoor Stage

For a bit of outside fun – and to run off all that extra energy! – children can partake in interactive stories, games and more on the State Library Lawns. Peter Combe will lead children in washing their faces in orange juice and belly flopping in pizza; Becky Hoops will take children on a hula hoop beach adventure; and Ron Murray will be sharing Indigenous stories and music. To find out more, view the festival program here.

On the Lawns

For a different type of fun outside on the State Library Lawns, why not invite your child to lie down on the grass or sink into a beanbag with their favourite book? Or how about transforming into a book monster at the Book Monster Marquee? Children will be able to create their own special book monster horns to wear all day and take home.
