Spring has sprung and that means it’s time for the annual
Royal Melbourne Show. A celebration of all things Melbourne, the family-friendly event runs for ten days in September showcasing everything from arts and crafts to cookery and live music. Today, C&G have rounded up the best bits so you can plan your visit around the show’s highlights.

Held at the iconic Melbourne Showgrounds, The Royal Melbourne Show has something for everyone, and is conveniently scheduled to coincide with school holidays – so there couldn’t be a better time to get your family out and about.

Live music is a popular happening at the show, with performances from Justice Crew, Australia’s Got Talent’s Bonnie Anderson, Little Sea and X Factor’s Nathaniel. There’s a chance to meet and greet the acts, too, so music fans, this part’s for you.

The show’s agricultural experiences are great for hands-on action. Head to the Garden Workshop Hub and get tips for your own garden, plant seedlings, learn about worm farms and make your own birdfeeder. With the Animal Farmyard also a popular attraction, you can dig for veggies, pat the chickens and sheer sheep. Australia’s favourite kid’s character, Peppa Pig, will also be chatting to guests and signing autographs. Great for the curious little ones, this’ll certainly impress for school holiday activities.

For foodies, the Winning Tastes Pavilion celebrates and showcases the best food in Australia. The Fine Food Deli offers samples of the finest fresh produce, while pop up restaurants from Melbourne faves – hint hint Huxtaburger – are all over the show, so you’ll never be far from something tasty. For something sweet, the Dessert Bar will be hosting Adriano Zumbo’s decadent delights, so you can sample those famous macarons for yourself.

The Thrillseeker’s Carnival is where adrenaline junkies unite. From the rides and attractions to the freestyle motocross stunt show, the carnival certainly lives up to its name. The show is brought to a close daily by a spectacular fireworks show, so see Melbourne lit up as you end your action packed day at the Royal Melbourne Show.

The show is open daily from 10am, and there are plenty of ticket packages available to make sure you get the most out of your visit. Browse the showguide to plan your visit and see what ticket suits you. There’s so much going on at the show – so much that rounding up the highlights was indeed a colossal task! Plan your travel to the show by road, rail or tram, and get stuck in to Melbourne’s biggest celebration.
