C&G’s Suburb Spotlight: Beaumaris

C&G Radio

From St Kilda to Sandringham, C&G has Bayside covered, so we’re taking you on a trip to Beaumaris. Our Suburb Spotlight series will explore all that Beaumaris has to offer, including where to brunch, lunch, walk, relax, and live it up in general.

Snuggled comfortably between Black Rock and Mentone, Beaumaris is one of the most sought-after Bayside suburbs. Boasting enviable bay and city views, a close-knit community and plush properties on every corner, if you’re looking for a beachside abode, Beaumaris – or ‘Beauy’ to the locals – could be for you.

The Locals

Beaumaris locals are predominantly made up of established and older couples and families, alongside elderly singles and older independents. The markedly low numbers of young professionals and young families makes Beaumaris one of the more sophisticated suburbs, ideal for the discerning home hunter. That’s not to say it’s not a place for young families – the older demographic is largely attributed to property prices. With a stunning beach, open spaces and local feel, young families – should they get the opportunity – will certainly feel at home in Beaumaris.

Property in Beaumaris

As one of Bayside’s ritziest suburbs, it’s no surprise that property prices in Beaumaris are substantially higher than other Melbourne suburbs of a similar distance from the CBD. Median house prices in Beaumaris currently sit at $1.45million, while units are $945,000 on average. For renters, median weekly costs for a 2BR property is around $458, with 3BR and 4BRs at $600 and $940 respectively. The high cost of properties in the area contributes to the high-brow community and older demographic, giving Beaumaris an evident feel of exclusivity for those lucky enough to live there.

Eating and Drinking in Beaumaris

What better way to soak up those bay views than over a glass of local Victorian wine and fresh produce. Beaumaris has an impressive portfolio of restaurants and bars worth visiting. For seafood lovers, Lobster Cave is a must-do, while good honest home-cooked Australian cuisine is on offer at Six Keys Restaurant. Socialise with friends over tapas and a wine list worth shouting about at Beau, or grab Sunday morning coffee and brunch at Uncle Bart Espresso Bar and Kitchen, or Rickett’s Point Café for beachside views in a relaxed environment.

The Great Outdoors

Enjoy Beaumaris’ incredible walking tracks along the coastline, and explore marine life at Rickett’s Point Marine Sanctuary, where you can witness creatures at home in their rockpools. For pet owners, parts of the local beaches are dog friendly, and there’s plenty of parks and reserves around for walking, running and picnic-ing. You’ll love Long Hollow Heathland and Beaumaris Reserve!
